Trial Scheme on Opening up the Arena of Selected Sports Centres for Booking by Individuals for New Sports Activities

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has been committed to promoting the development of diversified sports activities. With the increasing popularity of new sports activities in recent years, the LCSD has launched the “Trial Scheme on Opening up the Arena of Selected Sports Centres for Booking by Individuals for New Sports Activities” since October 2019. To further promote new sports activities, the LCSD has opened up the arena of six additional sports centres for booking by individuals for dodgeball, dodge disc, kin-ball, korfball, pickleball and tchoukball activities and extended the booking arrangements to cover peak hours since 15 January 2025. Members of the public can book these venues on a first-come, first-served basis via the SmartPLAY system.

In addition, starting from 3 August 2026, members of the public may book badminton courts in the arena of selected sports centres for pickleball activities. Under this arrangement, if one of the badminton courts in a session is first booked for pickleball or badminton, the remaining badminton courts in the same arena may only be booked for the same activity during that session. Members of the public may book badminton courts on a first-come, first-served basis up to seven days in advance via the SmartPLAY system, i.e. sessions on 3 August will be available for booking from 28 July. Remarks: Organisations wishing to book the arena of sports centres under the LCSD for new sports activities may submit block booking applications to the relevant leisure venues according to the Booking Procedure for Use of Fee Charging Recreation and Sports Activities (https://www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/facilities/facilitiesbooking/procedure/feeorganisation.html) after seeking prior agreement from the venue management.
