Salary:
Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 3 [$16,490] per month to Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 13 [$20,155] per month
Entry Requirements:
Candidates should:
1. have one or more of the following skills for carrying out recreation and amenities duties –
(a) horticulture or arboriculture (including the operation of horticulture/ arboriculture machinery), or practical nursery work;
(b) turf and sports ground maintenance;
(c) operation of sporting equipment in sports centre, sports ground and stadium, etc.; and
(d) looking after animals/ birds.
AND
2. be able to communicate in Cantonese/Chinese and simple English; read simple Chinese and simple English; and write simple Chinese or simple English; and
3. have a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test.
[Note:
i. Candidates will be required to pass a trade test.
ii. All applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their knowledge of the Basic Law and the National Security Law. A pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test (BLNST) is an entry requirement for all civil service jobs. Only those candidates who have passed the BLNST will be considered for appointment. For candidates who have not taken the BLNST or have not attained a pass result in the BLNST at the time of application, they may still apply for the job and arrangements will be made for them to take the relevant BLNST during the recruitment process.]
Duties:
A Workman I is mainly deployed on the following recreation and amenities duties -
1. gardening;
2. park-keeping and writing of simple report;
3. handling sports ground maintenance;
4. tree maintenance, grass mowing/ planting;
5. looking after animals/ birds;
6. operating sporting equipment in sports centre/ sports ground/ stadium, etc.;
7. performing nursery work; and
8. any other duties as assigned by senior officers.
[Note: Successful candidates should note that -
i. they are required to work 45 hours net per week (excluding meal breaks);
ii. they are required to wear uniform;
iii. they may be required to perform shift duties and work irregular hours (including Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays). Actual working hours will be arranged by Supervisors;
iv. they may be required to attend relevant training and/ or related assessment;
v. they may be required to perform outdoor duties; and
vi. they are subject to posting and transfer and required to work in remote areas (including outlying islands) at the discretion of the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services and are subject to posting to fill vacancies and carry out different duties in the same grade in other Government bureaux/ departments when the need arises.]
Terms of Appointment:
A new appointee will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/ she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
