Arts Tech Trainee


The 24-month Arts Tech Trainee Programme of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) aims at nurturing technology specialists capable of supporting application of arts technology (Arts Tech) in stage productions.  Successful applicants will be deployed to the East Kowloon Cultural Centre (EKCC), where they will receive trainings related to Arts Tech and stage management under the professional guidance of in-house technical managers and veteran technology professionals.  Throughout the 2-year programme, trainees will be given opportunities to attach to Arts Tech productions whereby they can work closely with artists and technology professionals in the curation and production of Arts Tech projects.

Salary: HK$19,819 per month (fixed throughout the contract period)

Entry Requirements:
Applicants should –
(a) have a bachelor’s degree from a university in Hong Kong, or equivalent; preferably with a major in arts technology or related discipline;
(b) have met the language proficiency requirements of ‘Level 2’ result in the Use of English (UE) paper and ‘Level 1’ result in the Use of Chinese (UC) paper in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE), or equivalent [see Note (4)]; and
(c) be fluent in spoken English and Cantonese.

Note: 
(1) Applicants should state clearly in their applications the major(s) of their Bachelor degree or equivalent and results in the UC paper and UE paper in the CRE. Failing to indicate such information will render the application unsuccessful.
 
(2) Applicants without the requisite academic qualification stated in entry requirement (a), but who are undergoing further studies with a view to obtaining the requisite qualification in the 2025/26 academic year may also apply; if selected, appointment will be subject to their obtaining the requisite academic qualification within the 2025/26 academic year.
 
(3) An invitation to the selection interview does not imply that the applicant has met the entry requirements of the post.
 
(4) The results of the UC and UE papers in the CRE are classified as ‘Level 2’, ‘Level 1’ or Fail, with ‘Level 2’ being the highest.
Level 5 or above in Chinese Language of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE); or Grade C or above in Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE), are accepted as equivalent to ‘Level 2’ in the UC paper of the CRE. Level 4 in Chinese Language of the HKDSEE; or Grade D in Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the HKALE, are accepted as equivalent to ‘Level 1’ in the UC paper of the CRE.
Level 5 or above in English Language of the HKDSEE; or Grade C or above in Use of English of the HKALE; or Grade C or above in English Language of the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) (GCE A Level), are accepted as equivalent to ‘Level 2’ in the UE paper of the CRE. 
Applicants with an overall band of 6.5 or above with no subtest score below band 6 obtained in the same sitting in the Academic Module of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) within the two-year validity period of the test result are accepted as equivalent to ‘Level 2’ in the UE paper of the CRE. The IELTS test result must be valid on any date during the application period.
 
(5) Applicants with knowledge and/or experience in performing arts, theatre and entertainment arts, arts technology and creative media may have an advantage.
 
(6) Serving and former –
(i) Non-civil Service Contract Trainees of LCSD (Arts Tech Trainees, Arts Administrator Trainees, Museum Trainees, Stage Management Trainees and Public Relations/Arts Marketing Trainees included);
(ii) Arts Administrator Trainees of LCSD Venue Partners and the Hong Kong Arts Festival Society; or
(iii) local interns trained by arts organisations under the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC)’s Training Schemes* 
will not be considered. 
 
*The HKADC’s Training Schemes include the Arts Administration Internship Scheme, the HKADC Arts Administration Internship Scheme, the Arts Production Internship Scheme, and the Local Arts Administration/ Production Internship Scheme.

Duties:
Successful applicants will be trained at the East Kowloon Cultural Centre in –
 
(1) applying technology in different forms of stage productions; 
 
(2) familiarising with various advanced technology equipment and systems, such as immersive audio system, real-time stage tracking system, motion and facial capture system, media servers, etc.; and
 
(3) assisting in stage management and operation. 
 
(Note: Arts Tech Trainees are normally required to work 44 hours per week.  They may be required to work shifts and/or irregular hours on Saturdays, Sundays and/or Public Holidays.)

Terms of Appointment:
Successful applicants will be appointed on non-renewable Non-civil Service Contract Terms for 24 months, with salary fixed throughout the contract period.  Arts Tech Trainees are subject to the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance (Cap. 485).

Fringe Benefits:
Rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), annual leave, maternity/paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance.

(1) Applicants must apply online through the G.F. 340 Online Application System of the Civil Service Bureau (https://www.csb.gov.hk) on or before 17 July 2026. Candidates should state clearly in their applications their full record of employment, academic qualifications (including the major(s) of their Bachelor degree or equivalent) and the results of the UC paper and UE paper in the CRE should also be included as shortlisting criteria may be applied for selecting better qualified candidates to selection interviews.  Applications which are incomplete or submitted in person, by post, by fax or by e-mail will not be accepted.
 
(2) For qualifications awarded by local institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority, copies of official transcripts of studies and certificates are not required to be submitted at this stage of application.  Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessment on equivalence with the required entry qualifications.  They should submit all copies of their official transcripts of studies and certificates by email to amekcc5@lcsd.gov.hk on or before 24 July 2026.  Candidates should mark “For application of NCSC Arts Tech Trainee” and quote the on-line application number on the copies of every page of supporting documents.
 
(3) Candidates who are invited for selection interview will be required to produce the original copies of official transcripts, certificates and proof of relevant working experience for verification and photocopies for record purpose.  The application will be deemed unsuccessful if any applicant fails to produce the original copies of the required documents for verification.
 
(4) Applicants who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation for interview within eight weeks from the closing date for application.  Those who are not invited for interview may assume their applications unsuccessful.

General Notes:
