Part-time Usher


Salary: HK$70 per hour

Entry Requirements:
Applicants should 
(a)(i) have Level 2 or equivalent [Note (1)] or above in five subjects, including Chinese Language and English Language, in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE), or equivalent; or 
(a)(ii) have Level 2 [Note (2)] / Grade E or above in five subjects, including Chinese Language and English Language, in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent;
(b) have at least 1 year of full-time working experience;
(c) be able to read and write Chinese and English, speak fluent Cantonese, English and Putonghua; and
(d) Applicants with ushering or relevant experience may be an advantage.
 
Note:
(1) For non-civil service appointment purpose, “Attained” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade E in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE.
(2) For non-civil service appointment purpose, “Grade E” in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to “Level 2” in Chinese Language and English Language respectively in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.


Duties:
To perform ticket inspection, house programmes and pamphlet distribution, ushering, crowd control and other duties in designated venue(s) under the LCSD.  Details to be arranged by venue management.  Appointees are required to perform duties under stage sounds and lighting effect (usually in dim lighting), climb stepped aisles, communicate with patrons, guide and direct patrons to their seats and assist in enforcing venue’s house regulations.

(Note: Part-time Ushers are required to work shifts and irregular hours including evenings, weekends and public holidays, may need to work till midnight and walk or stand for a long period of time; and wear uniform at work.)

Terms of Appointment:
Successful candidates will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms.

Candidates should state clearly in their applications their full record of employment, academic qualifications and Chinese and English languages proficiency level as shortlisting criteria may be applied for selecting better qualified candidates to selection interviews.  Applications which are incomplete or submitted in person, by post, by fax or by e-mail will not be accepted.
(2) For qualifications awarded by local institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority, copies of official transcripts of studies and certificates are not required to be submitted at this stage of application.  Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessment on equivalence with the required entry qualifications.  They should submit all copies of their official transcripts of studies and certificates by email to hkccgr@lcsd.gov.hk on or before 17 April 2026.  Candidates should mark “For application of NCSC Part-time Usher” and quote the on-line application number on the copies of every page of supporting documents.
(3) Candidates who are invited for selection interview will be required to produce the original copies of official transcripts, certificates and proof of relevant working experience for verification and photocopies for record purpose.  The application will be deemed unsuccessful if any applicant fails to produce the original copies of the required documents for verification.
(4) Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation within 14 weeks from the closing date for application.  This period may be longer in exceptional circumstances, e.g. when a large number of applications are received or when there are other complications.  Those who are not invited for interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.

General Notes:
(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.
