Choreographer Allen Lam to perform in a collage of dance and images
Following the success of "Angels Within" last year, local choreographer Allen Lam will next month (July) present a surreal dance work, "Space within Shapes", in collaboration with scenographic artist Gabriel Fung and videographer Franky Lung.
In the performance, the trio will invite the audience to explore how buildings are experienced and how they affect individuals and communities emotionally through the projection of senses of joy, identity and aspirations within a confined space.
Lam weaves amid Fung's spatial lighting sculpture and Lung's architectural imagery to give audiences an experience of the choreographer's three-dimensional narrative. Entering Lam's work is an active, and sometimes an anxious, experience in which audiences go through an elaborate labyrinth of time and space.
A graduate of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Lam earned his masters degree in fine art from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. He has a unique talent and style that cover classical ballet, and contemporary and experimental dance. In 2004, he founded "Muse Motion" and staged a cross-media work, "Vibration in Stillness", to critical acclaim. In 2005, Lam and Abby Chan were given the Hong Kong Dance Award for organising and staging an influential bilateral exchange project, "Dance Wide HKNY".
A highlight in the "Hong Kong Stories Series" organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Space within Shapes" will be at 8pm on July 25 and 26 (Friday and Saturday) and 3pm on July 27 (Sunday) at the Black Box Theatre, Kwai Tsing Theatre.
