The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) announced today (June 6) that it had hoisted shark flags at its 10 gazetted beaches in Southern District.

The department reminded swimmers to swim in swimming zones enclosed by shark prevention nets after a whale shark was caught and later released by a fisherman in the waters off Round Island in Southern District.

The gazetted beaches are Shek O, Deep Water Bay, Repulse Bay, Middle Bay, South Bay, Chung Hom Kok, St Stephen's, Big Wave Bay, Stanley Main and Turtle Cove.

The Stanley Main Beach Water Sports Centre and St Stephen's Beach Water Sports Centre which share the same waters will be temporarily closed from tomorrow (June 7) until further notice.

Ends/Friday, June 6, 2008
