Stunning stars perform at Gala Flamenca Dance
Legendary performers and the hottest young stars from the London and New York Flamenco Festivals are being brought together this month (November) to present "Gala Flamenca Dance: Yesterday, Today and Always", an enthralling collaboration between the best of today and the next generation of Flamenco greats.
The performance, which will be held from November 16-18 at 7.30pm at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre, marks the closing of the Mediterranean Arts Festival organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
Merche Esmeralda, who has dedicated her life to Flamenco, has helped shape the direction of this art form since the 1960s. In 2007 she received the Compás del Cante, an award also known as the "Flamenco Nobel". Also appearing on stage presenting the flamenco dance are Belén Maya who is well known for seeking out and creating new artistic forms within the framework of orthodox Flamenco; soloist Olga Pericet who won the Pilar López Prize at the 2007 Córdoba National Flamenco Art Contest; Flamenco fusion star Manuel Linán who won prizes for Solo Choreography and Most Outstanding Dancer in the 13th Madrid Spanish Dance and Flamenco Choreography Contest; critics' favourite Marco Flores who has won Antonio Gades, Mario Maya, and Carmen Amaya awards as well as the Baile Prize at the 2007 Córdoba National Flamenco Art Contest; and the popular flamenco dancer Daniel Dona who was named Most Outstanding Dancer at the 11th Madrid Spanish Dance and Flamenco Choreography Contest in 2002.
Their performances will be supported by a superb ensemble of singers and musicians.
