Learn more about orchids through free exhibition at Kowloon Park

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will hold a horticulture education exhibition entitled "Know More about Orchids" to arouse public interest in horticulture and to enhance their awareness of greening.

The exhibition will be held on October 6 and 7 (Saturday and Sunday) from 10am to 4pm at the Arcade of Kowloon Park. Admission is free.

Orchids are monocotyledons. They are perennial herbs and belong to the Orchidaceae family. There are currently more than 25,000 known species of orchids. Common species include Phalaenopsis, Paphiopedilums, Dendrobium and Cymbidiums.

The family of orchids is large and diverse. Through the description on display panels, people can learn more about the types, growing habits, propagation and maintenance of orchids.

Fringe activities including a jig-saw puzzle, recycled produce workshops and a demonstration on making decorations from plants will be held during the exhibition at the Kowloon Park Arcade. Visitors can also share the fun of pot planting under the guidance of horticulture instructors.
