Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the Tsuen Wan District Sand Sculpture Competition and Sand Sculpture Exchange Programme 2007 will be held at Lido Beach from 9am to 1pm on October 14.

The competition is an opportunity for sand sculptors to exchange experiences and enhance team spirit.

They will also have the chance to appreciate the skills of sand sculptors invited from Kagoshima Hioki City, Japan.

The sand sculpture competition will be divided into four divisions - open, youth, children and disabled.

Each team should comprise of three to five members. In the disabled division, applications should be made by organisations and each team should comprise of six to eight members with at least half of them being people with disabilities.

Teams can decide their own themes and will have two hours to create their sand sculptures in an area of about three metres by four metres.

A spade, a small plastic spade and a bucket will be provided for each team. The participants can also bring along their own tools as long as they are not electrical or mechanical. Ornaments such as shells and stones that will not harm the environment can be used.

The adjudication of the composition will be based on skill, creativity and aesthetics.

Prizes will be awarded to the winner, first runner-up and second runner-up of each division. All teams will also vie for the overall championship and greatest creativity award.
