Lúcnica brings Slovak National Folklore Ballet to Hong Kong
Internationally acclaimed Lúcnica will present "Forever Young" - the Slovak National Folklore Ballet, next month (September) in Hong Kong.
"Forever Young" is a showcase of the most successful programmes of Lúcnica that are highly representative of the ethnic cultures of Slovakia. It includes "The Tossing Dance", "Carnival Stick Dance", "Spring Arrives, Shepherds' Night, Detva Festival", "Boys from Sharish", "Karicka Dance" and "Fanny Hat Dance". The Golden Violin, a professional ensemble made up of eight seasoned musicians, provides live accompaniment with traditional Slovak musical instruments.
The programme rolls out a splendid tapestry of ethnic dance and music performed by artists in resplendent folk costumes. Dances range from playful, humorous group dances to vivacious pas de deux, conjuring up the picturesque beauty of Slovakia.
The New York Times (USA) commented that "its young dancers spark with excellent technique in the overwhelming repertoire that truly grasps the surprisingly various sources."
Lúcnica, also known as "Lúcnica - Forever young" or "Rolling Stones of folklore", has served as a cultural ambassador of the Slovak Republic (formerly Czechoslovakia). Inspired by the national traditions, they create masterly techniques and fantasy in a folkloric show of a high level of artistic standard while retaining the unique features of each dance. It has groomed more than 2,000 young dancers whose exceptional techniques boast a complexity level that is comparable to top mastery in sports.
Prof Stefan Nosál is the founder, artistic director and choreographer of Lúcnica. With his artistic genius and unique creativity, Prof Nosál has created more than 100 dances and dance programmes, an amazing feat that has earned him the accolade as a "National Artist" of his country. Lúcnica has captivated audiences in 60 countries worldwide, including Broadway and the Royal Opera House in London.
