"Free Steps" brings a new multi-art universe
"Free Steps" – by Mui Kwong-chiu Production – will be staged next month (September) to show a collaborative art of original music, dance and visuals.
"Free Steps" is the collaboration of three artistic forces: renowned composer Mui Kwong-chiu's original music, Ong Yong-lock's choreography and Chang Lok-yee's visual images. Dancers Lee Swee-keong (Malaysia), Lim Wei-wei and musician Ken Wu will also participate in the performance.
Based on the theme from an original music "floating rays, icy calligraphy and moving colours" composed by Mui, the programme combines music, dance and visual arts to generate a new three-dimensional arts creation.
Mui Kwong-chiu is an active composer who has created rich and prolific styles in different musical genres. Mui is the Director of Hong Kong Composers' Guild, the Honorary Composer in Residence of the Hong Kong Harmonica Association, the advisor of many choirs and the adjudicator for Asia Pacific Harmonica Festival.
Ong Yong-lock is one of the most promising choreographers in Hong Kong. Ong founded "the Unlock Dancing Plaza" with Elise Chau and was awarded the Hong Kong Dance Award 2002 for his outstanding choreography. Important works include "Same Time Tomorrow" and "10 Nights' Wanderings".
Chang Lok-yee was a producer and cameraman of the Television Broadcasts Limited, the cinematographer for "Ah Ying", "Just like Weather" and "Dancing Bull", and the set design for "The American Restaurant" of the City Contemporary Dance Company.
