A journey to the black light magic "Kaleidoscope"
"Kaleidoscope" by Cia. Kukla from Argentina, one of the attractions of the Family Fiesta 2007, is a play that effectively uses a mix of visual effects of black light theatre and familiar classical music.
The performance is an entrance to a beautiful, mesmerising, sprightly and sweet-sounding world through the black light magic. Just like watching through a kaleidoscope, by turning it for different colourful patterns, the little puppets - the child, animals and scenery - will turn round and round in front of the audience.
The play reflects the experiences of a boy. Each twist and turn of his life brings change as he travels around unknown places such as a garden in a warm spring, a city full of cars and factories, the mysterious sea and to meet the penguins at the South Pole. The boy subsequently meets a beautiful girl and they find comfort in each other as their friendship deepens.
Sprightly and dramatic pieces by famous composers such as Tchaikovsky, Debussy and Prokofiev evoke a scope of actions and emotions unfolded by the main characters.
Cia. Kukla originated in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1988. They create all kind of plays for children and their families with different kinds of puppets. Each play of Cia. Kukla has a different objective and they are interested in the final message that children receive and how the play or the puppets influence them. The troupe has also travelled to Mexico, El Salvador, Chile, Brazil, Czechoslovakia, Spain, Singapore and Malaysia where the performances earned excellent reviews.
