Chinese Music Virtuosi performs concert "InSense"
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present Chinese instrumental music concert "InSense" by Chinese Music Virtuosi next month (August).
The programme includes "Thunder in the Drought", "A Hungry Horse Shaking its Bells", "Raindrops Falling on the Plantain Leaves", "The Drunken Taibai", "Red Candle Tears", "Shiny Moon, Rainy Sky", etc.
Chinese Music Virtuosi was founded in 1997. Its mission is to promote Chinese instrumental music - from cherished oldies to newly commissioned works. Six members, Loo Sze Wang (sheng), Chu Siu Wai (dizi), Pan Ya Sze (yangqin), Leung Oi Ying (zheng), Wong Chi Chung (huqin) and Yeung Po Wing (pipa) are all experienced music teachers and performers. They all share the same belief that there are still many possibilities in the world of Chinese music for further exploration on the performance techniques and an expansion of repertoire. Chinese music can have very different prospects.
Since its establishment, Chinese Music Virtuosi has presented educational concerts and workshop series apart from regular public performances. It has won tremendous support and acclaim with its diverse repertoire and remarkable techniques. It also appeared at overseas festivals like Six Hermits presented by the renowned Song Company of Australia in Sydney Conservatorium, Parramatta, and Melbourne Festival in 2002, the 34th and 36th Internacional Encuentros Festival in 2002 and 2004 and the 5th Festival Internacional de Musica de Buenos Aires in Argentina in 2002. From 2003 to 2005, members of the ensemble also participated in the Est-Ovest Unviaggio nella musica de oggi project presented by the Xenia Ensemble (Italy), the Modern Opera Opiume organised by the Checkpoint Theatre (Singapore), the European concert tour with HK Sinfonietta and Bartłuk Festival (Hungary).
The concert "InSense" will be staged at 8pm on Wednesday, August 23, at the Studio Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Tickets priced at $120 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
