Tai Kok Tsui leisure facilities open today
******************************************

Located at Yau Tsim Mong District, Tai Kok Tsui Swimming Pool, Tai Kok Tsui Sports Centre and Tai Kok Tsui Public Library managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) were officially open today (July 10).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Anissa Wong, said the department had spared no effort in offering quality leisure, sports and cultural services to cater for community needs.

Ms Wong said the department had developed new facilities to meet the demands of the residents as a result of the urban redevelopment.

"Being the first indoor recreation venue in the clubhouse-style in Yau Tsim Mong District, Tai Kok Tsui Sports Centre has a great diversity of facilities.

"Also, there are lots of activities to promote the library services and to foster reading habits in the community," she added.

Tai Kok Tsui Swimming Pool, Tai Kok Tsui Sports Centre and Tai Kok Tsui Public Library are situated in the Tai Kok Tsui Municipal Services Building at 63 Fuk Tsun Street, Tai Kok Tsui.

Land-based facilities provided in Tai Kok Tsui Sports Centre include a main arena, a sports climbing wall, a fitness room, a children's play room, three activity rooms and a spectator stand that can accommodate up to 250 people.

Below the sports centre is Tai Kok Tsui Swimming Pool equipped with an indoor leisure pool with a tropical setting and a 25-metre training pool.

Tai Kok Tsui Sports Centre opens from 7am to 11pm daily while there are three opening sessions at Tai Kok Tsui Swimming Pool - 6.30am to noon, 1pm to 5pm, and 6pm to 10pm. On Mondays, the pools will be closed from 10am to 5pm for weekly cleaning.

Occupying an area of 670 square metres, Tai Kok Tsui Public Library provides an ideal place for local residents to enjoy some leisure reading.

The library has acquired a basic stock of 60,000 items.

Apart from facilities such as an Adult Lending Library, Children's Library, Newspapers and Periodicals Section and Extension Activities Room, the library has 10 computer terminals in the Computer and Information Centre. Together with the Online Public Access Catalogue terminals, readers can search library catalogues and the Multimedia Information System, browse the internet and view CD-ROMs.

Four self-charging terminals are installed for readers, which will shorten the queuing time at the circulation counter, while a book-drop service is also provided outside the library for the return of items after opening hours.

Tai Kok Tsui Public Library opens from 10am to 7pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It opens from 10am to 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays and from 10am to 1pm on public holidays. The library is closed on Thursdays.
