Lotus Show opens tomorrow at Hong Kong Park
*******************************************

A nine-day Lotus Show will start tomorrow (June 24) until July 2 at Hong Kong Park. Admission is free.

More than 1,600 pots of lotus in some 100 cultivars, and more than 200 pots of common aquatic plants in some 30 cultivars will be on display at the Park's Conservatory and the Artificial Lake.

Jointly organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Institute of Horticulture (Hong Kong), the Lotus Show offers a chance for public to appreciate the beauty of lotus flowers and other aquatic plants, and to enhance their knowledge on lotus, in addition to help promote green consciousness.

Blossoms in summer, lotus is a beautiful and elegant aquatic plant. The lotus flowers are fragrant with single, semi-double or double petals. They come in range of colours such as red, pink and white.

Lotus is not only a summer aquatic plant with great ornamental merits. It also has significant economic value. All along, with elegant and graceful appearance, every part of the lotus (both fresh and dried) earns popularity with gardening enthusiasts in horticulture and floral art.

Apart from lotuses on display, the lotus show will also present talks and demonstrations on floral arrangement, ceramic art and Chinese painting on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
