More than 120,000 books sold on first day of charity sale

There was an overwhelming response to the Sale of Donated Books today (February 25).

More than 120,000 books were sold and about 14,700 people participated on the first day of the Sale of Donated Books today. There was an increase in both attendance and books sold. Over 100,000 books were sold and about 12,800 people participated at the first day of the Sale of Donated Books last year.

The Sale of Donated Books continues tomorrow (Sunday) from 10am to 6pm. All books are sold at $5 each with a limit of 30 books for each buyer. All proceeds will be donated to The Community Chest of Hong Kong. This year, more than 230,000 books were collected through the Book Donation Campaign.

Sales were held at the Exhibition Gallery of the Hong Kong Central Library (G/F, 66 Causeway Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong), Kai Tak East Sports Centre (30 Luk Hop Street, San Po Kong) and the Main Arena of the Yuen Wo Road Sports Centre (8 Yuen Wo Road, Sha Tin, New Territories).

People are urged to bring their own bags and not to bring any books into the book sales venues. Crowd management measures may be implemented at the sales venues.

The Book Donation & Sale Campaign is jointly organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Home Affairs Department and 18 District Councils, Hong Kong Housing Authority, Hongkong Post, The Community Chest of Hong Kong and the Agency for Volunteer Service with the aim of promoting reading, book sharing and charity.
