Sichuan's "Whimsical Puppets" coming to HK
******************************************

Sichuan Huge Puppet Troupe of China will stage "Whimsical Puppets" early next month, as one of the many attractions of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department's Cheers! series.

The show includes song and dance performance "The World is Full of Joy when the Sun Comes Out Parasol Dance", the nimble puppetry performance "Apsaras", stunt show "A Mask Display", etc.

Sichuan's life-sized puppetry dates back 300 years, with its origins in folk art.The craft is recognised for its meticulous workmanship and vividness in form. With animated facial features, the puppets are capable of giving lifelike expressions and movements, such as blowing out flames, lighting candles, smoking, drinking tea, wielding weapons, singing, playing musical instruments and dressing. They are well suited for performing stories of a mythical or legendary nature, fairy tales, and stunts.

As a professional group with solid experience in the performing arts, the troupe boasts a fine team of puppet design artists, performers and dramatists and a wide-ranging repertoire. It has represented Sichuan Province in various national arts events, winning numerous major awards at the National Showcase, for Best Repertoire, Best Design, Best Scenography, Most Outstanding Performance and Best of Shows.
