"Folk Songs Gala of Guangxi" coming to HK
The colourful "Folk Songs Gala of Guangxi" will be staged by the Guangxi Liuzhou Song and Dance Troupe in Hong Kong next month (January 2006).
The production is rich with sets and props that are icons of Guangxi, folk costumes and masks, streamer balls, grain drying racks and tall banyan trees. Songs, music, exotic dances and scenes merge to provide a spectacular showcase of ethnic rhythms and sounds.
A cast of 57 coming from different ethnic groups will present over 28 folk songs full of rustic charm under the themes of Work and Love. As the show unfolds, the audience will have a rare glimpse of the traditions and values of the many ethnic groups of Guangxi.
"Folk Songs Gala of Guangxi" was included in the 2003-2004 Top Ten shows of the National Fine Stage Arts Project, and has won a number of awards, including the 11th Wenhua Award of the Ministry of Culture for Best Production, and the Audience's Favourite Programme Award of the 7th China Arts Festival.
