Weekly special cleansing continues at LCSD swimming pools open in winter to keep clean
*****************************************

A total of 14 heated swimming pools managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will remain open this winter to serve the public while weekly cleansing will continue at these pools to keep their hygiene standards.

Apart from daily regular cleansing work, the weekly cleansing operation will be arranged alternately at these pools to ensure the standard of hygiene is maintained at the highest level.

Twelve of the 14 pools, namely Wan Chai Swimming Pool, Morrison Hill Swimming Pool, Kowloon Park Swimming Pool, Hammer Hill Road Swimming Pool, Ho Man Tin Swimming Pool, Island East Swimming Pool, Lai Chi Kok Park Swimming Pool, Sham Shui Po Park Swimming Pool, Fanling Swimming Pool, Tseung Kwan O Swimming Pool, Sha Tin Jockey Club Swimming Pool and Shing Mun Valley Swimming Pool will begin to provide heated swimming facilities on November 1.

Yuen Long Swimming Pool will be opened from November 1 to the end of January next year (2006). It will then be closed for maintenance from February 1. Tuen Mun Swimming Pool will be closed for maintenance from November 1 and re-open on February 1 next year.

For non-heated swimming pools, Kennedy Town Swimming Pool will serve the public until the end of November. It will be closed from December 1 for annual maintenance.

Two other non-heated swimming pools, including Victoria Park Swimming Pool and Hin Tin Swimming Pool will be closed for maintenance from November 1. They will re-open on May 1 and June 1 next year respectively. Kowloon Tsai Swimming Pool which has been closed for maintenance since September will re-open on July 1 next year.

The remaining 18 of the department's public swimming pools will be closed from November 1 to March next year for maintenance.

In view of maintaining the highest level of hygiene, the weekly cleansing programme will be continued during the winter schedule. As the opening hours of Kennedy Town Swimming Pool will be from 6.30am to noon in November, its cleansing work will be scheduled on Wednesday right after its closure. For the other swimming pools, the cleansing operation will start from 10am until the end of the second session of each individual swimming pool. It will then resume service at the third session.
