CE presents flag to Hong Kong delegation to 10th National Games

The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, today (September 18) presented the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region flag to the Hong Kong delegation to the 10th National Games of the People's Republic of China.

Hong Kong will send more than 180 athletes to compete in the 10th National Games to be held in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province from October 12 to 23. The National Games, which are held every four years, are the proving ground of top athletes from all over the country.

The Hong Kong delegation will take part in 23 events, namely triathlon, fencing, windsurfing, skating, beach volleyball, hockey, badminton, tennis, gymnastics, judo, weightlifting, rowing, cycling, table-tennis, baseball, wushu, shooting, swimming (including water polo), equestrian, handball, archery, athletics and canoeing.

At today's flag presentation ceremony held at Hong Kong Park Sports Centre, the Chief Executive passed to four representatives of the Hong Kong delegation a torch brought last month from Beijing to symbolise the spirit of the National Games. The athletes were Mr Lee Chi-wo (triathlon), Ms Kong Cheuk-yee (beach volleyball ), Mr Chung Ching-nam (water polo) and Mr Lo Kin-pan (handball).

Dr Patrick Ho, Head of the delegation, and Mr Timothy Fok and Ms Anissa Wong, Chairman and Vice-chairman of the Organising Committee of the delegation, also officiated at today's flag presentation ceremony.

The torch will be sent to Nanjing to converge with torches from across the country at a special ceremony on September 22.
