Russian National Ballet Theatre to perform classic, "Sleeping Beauty"
With famed Bolshoi Ballet soloist Vladimir Moiseev as Artistic Director, the renowned Russian National Ballet Theatre will perform for Hong Kong audiences the romantic Russian classic, "Sleeping Beauty", in October.
Danced to the perfect score of Tchaikovsky, the performance highlights seamless choreography, extraordinary soloists' dancing, a brilliant corps de ballet, elegant scenery and vivid costumes. The New York Post says: "If you only ever see one ballet company in your life, make sure it is this one."
The vibrant Russian National Ballet Theatre, founded with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, has given ballet a new lease of life. The theatre's repertoire includes not only classic performances such as "Swan Lake", "The Nutcracker" and "Sleeping Beauty", but also modern ballet to the music of Mozart, Bach, Ravel and others. Under the directorship of Vladimir Moiseev, grandson of the legendary Russian ballet-master, Igor Moiseev, and Evgeny Amosov, the theatre features many of Russia's award-winning principals and soloists.
Based on Charles Perrault's classic fairytale, "Sleeping Beauty" was choreographed by the great French choreographer Marius Petipa to the music of Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The sweeping score was one of Tchaikovsky's favourite compositions and is perhaps the best piece of music he ever wrote. The intricate choreography by Petipa is considered technically difficult even today, and over 100 years ago it was even more so when dancing techniques were far less developed.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Sleeping Beauty" by the Russian National Ballet Theatre will be staged at 8pm on October 7, 8 and 9 (Friday to Sunday) at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall, Yuen Long Theatre and Sha Tin Town Hall respectively.
