Number of LCSD Swimming Facilities Open Today

With the majority of Leisure and Cultural Services Department's (LCSD) lifeguards reporting duty as usual and the assistance from the Hong Kong Life Saving Society and Auxiliary Medical Service (AMS), most swimming pools and beaches of the LCSD remained open today (August 19) despite the industrial action taken by some LCSD lifeguards.

The details of opening arrangements of LCSD's 36 swimming pools, 32 gazzetted beaches and four water sports centres today are as follows:

Swimming pools:

* 35 swimming pools were fully open or partially open.
* One swimming pool (Jockey Club Yan Oi Tong Swimming Pool) was closed in the afternoon session.
* Wan Chai Swimming Pool, Sham Shui Po Park Swimming Pool, Morse Park Swimming Pool, Mui Wo Swimming Pool, Kwai Shing Swimming Pool and Sha Tin Jockey Club Swimming Pool were temporarily closed from 10 am until the end of the afternoon session as usual for the weekly cleansing operations

Beaches:

* Lifeguard services were provided at 31 beaches.
* One beach (Old Cafeteria Beach) had lifeguard services suspended.

Water sports centres:
--------------------
*The four water sports centres were open.

The Department thanked the LCSD lifeguards who were on duty today, the honorary lifeguards and all other staff for rendering services at public swimming pools and gazetted beaches, as well as the public's understanding.

The Department recorded attendance at the swimming pools today at 19,852 whereas that for last Friday (August 12) was 55,962. The number of estimated attendance at the beaches was 6,465 today whereas that for last Friday (August 12) was 30,056.
