Enrolment starts for 2005-06 Masters Games
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department is inviting people aged 35 or above to compete in the annual Masters Games to be held between October this year and February, 2006.
This year's games are title-sponsored by SBI E-2 Capital Group. Competition will be organised in 10 sports - table tennis, lawn bowls, tennis, swimming, distance running, tai chi, badminton, orienteering, gateball and golf (driving range), which is being introduced into the games for the first time.
To encourage participants to get involved in the games and to promote sports volunteerism, the LCSD will invite them to act as umpires in some of the events.
A spokesman for the department said the Masters Games started in 1993 and were now entering their 13th year. "The emphasis is on participation and enjoyment rather than winning. By providing people aged 35 or above with competition opportunities, we hope to keep up their interest in sports and encourage them to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle."
