Instrumental Music Training Scheme recruits beginners

The Instrumental Music Training Scheme, organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, is inviting applications from children aged six to 14 years to join the 2005-06 training scheme.

Basic training in more than 20 Western and Chinese musical instruments is offered. They include violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, euphonium, tuba, percussion, sheng, dizi, suona, zheng, pipa, erhu, zhongruan, sanxian, yangqin, cello (Chinese) and percussionn (Chinese). Supplementary training in musicianship and theory is also provided.

The two-year elementary training courses will start in November. Weekly one-hour group lessons will be conducted in Cantonese at the Music Office's five music centres in Wan Chai, Kwun Tong, Mong Kok, Sha Tin and Tsuen Wan. The monthly tuition fee is $130.

The School Instrumental Music Training Scheme is also inviting applications from children aged six to 12 to take classes in elementary Chinese erhu, liuyeqin and flute in Tin Shui Wai district. Weekly one-hour group lessons will be conducted at Tin Shui Wai Xianggang Putonghua Yanxishe Primary School of Science and Creativity. The tuition fee for the first year is $1,170.
