Taipei and HK dancers to perform "Individual Dreams...Shared Bed"
To celebrate its 10th anniversary next month, DanceArt will present the spectacular dance theatrical production, "Individual Dreams... Shared Bed", featuring six dancers from Taipei and Hong Kong.
Taipei versus Hong Kong — one race, two branches. Both are culturally, linguistically and socially different and yet alike. When three experienced dancers from Hong Kong meet the other three from Taipei, they interact, co-operate and collide. And they will sparkle.
"Individual Dreams... Shared Bed" is a dance theatrical work integrated with live music, which attempts to reveal the similarities and differences of lives and values of people in these two territories. Their artistry varies but somehow relates on so many levels.
The performance tells the stories of two blossoms growing in different soil originating from the same seed. Using "bed" as the key medium and "dream" as a route leading to the soul, dancers are exploring tenderness, selfishness and desire in human nature.
The dance show assembles six brilliant dancers from Taipei and Hong Kong. Each is renowned for being innovative and powerful yet gentle.
Hong Kong artists include Francis Leung (Artistic Director of DanceArt), Andy Wong (Resident Choreographer of DanceArt) and Yvette Huang (Principal Dancer of DanceArt).
Taipei artists include Ku Ming-shen (Founder of Ku & Dancers, Taipei), Yang Mei-rong (Former Dancer of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan) and Chen Qiu-yin (Former Dancer of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, Rehearsal Mistress of Cloud Gate 2).
In addition, celebrated composer Kung Chi-shing will play live music during the performance. This production is a brief review of DanceArt Hong Kong, which has been advancing and evolving for the past decade.
"Individual Dreams... Shared Bed", presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and produced by DanceArt Hong Kong, will be staged at 8pm on July 8 and 9 (Friday and Saturday), and 3pm on July 10 (Sunday) at the Studio Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. There will be a post-performance meet-the-artists session on July 9.
