11-year-old takes top prize in design competition
Primary five student Fok Ken-long outshone other competitors to become the overall winner as well as the primary school section winner of the International Arts Carnival (IAC) Graphic Design Competition. Form seven student Joanna Tse Chung-yan has become the winner of the secondary school section.
Overall winner Fok Ken-long's design is outstanding and full of childlike simplicity. The composition of the poster is clean yet successfully brings out the theme of an international fun-filled carnival. Secondary school section winner Joanna Tse's design is skillful and mature. The brilliant colours blended well with the cartoon characters, adding festive atmosphere to the poster.
Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the competition attracted a total of 1,765 entries -- 1,285 entries from the primary section and 480 entries from the secondary section.
The adjudication panel included Executive Committee Member of the Hong Kong Designers Association Mr Paul Lam; Lecturer, School of Early Childhood Education of the Hong Kong Institute of Education Ms Lily Cheung Lai-ha; Programme Leader/Lecturer of the School of Design, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Mr Francis Fung; Art Director of Asia One Multimedia Limited Mr Andre Shum; and Senior Manager (Festivals) Ms Elaine Yeung of the LCSD.
The winners, the first runners-up, second runners-up and outstanding entries in the two sections will each be awarded a trophy and book voucher. Results of the IAC Graphic Design Competition are as follows:
