Artists selected for neighourhood scheme

Nine artists and three art units have been selected to join the third phase of the Artists in the Neighbourhood Scheme this year.

The 12 successful applicants, including budding and established artists, were chosen by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department's (LCSD) Art Promotion Office (APO) from among 124 applications.

They include mixed-media artists Man Fung-yi and Mok Yat-san, Zoe Yung and Tien Chi, Amy Cheung and So Yan-kei; sculptors Wong Tin-yan and Lee Chin-fai; interactive artist Alvin Yip; illustrator Michael Kwong; Chinese ink painter Hung Hoi; Western-style painter Helen Au; ceramicists from the Contemporary Ceramic Society (HK); and installation artist Marc Leung.

The launch of the "Artists in the Neighourhood Scheme III" and exhibition will be held at the Exhibition Galleries 1 to 5, Hong Kong Central Library from June 26 to June 30. Solo exhibitions of the selected artists/units will be scheduled to take place from September, 2005, to 2007 at different venues.

Apart from the LCSD's venues, the APO has lined up different venues such as MTR stations, bookstores and shopping malls in public estates.

The scheme aims to make art a part of the public's daily life by bringing the work of outstanding local artists to the community.
