Heavenly voices to lift HK audiences
One of the oldest, largest and most active choirs in the city, Hong Kong Oratorio Society will soon join Hong Kong Strings to give two concerts.
Under the baton of its music director, Professor Chan Wing-wah, the society's performance will include "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring (from Cantata No. 147)", "Ave Maria", "Gloria", "The Lark in the Clear Air" and "The Lord's Prayer" to name a few of the highlights of the concert.
The concert, "Heaven & Earth are Filled with Your Glory", will be held at 3pm on June 25 (Saturday) at the Auditorium of the Tuen Mun Town Hall and 3pm on July 3 (Sunday) at the Auditorium of the Sha Tin Town Hall.
Over the past 49 years, Hong Kong Oratorio Society has presented more than 300 concerts and performed about 100 oratorios and major choral works by classical and contemporary composers, while many of these works were premiered in Hong Kong. In addition, the society has commissioned four choral works and released four CD recordings.
Hong Kong Strings was founded in 1998 and is comprised of over 20 young string musicians. Members are mainly graduates of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and local or overseas music institutions. Some of them are currently working for the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and other local orchestras. The group is dedicated to promoting music to the public through concerts.
