Enrolments for gardening course starts tomorrow
Amateur gardeners are reminded to enrol from tomorrow (March 17) for the first gardening course in Tung Tsz Nursery, Tai Po, under the Community Garden Programme.
Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the new course will start on April 17 at the community garden inside the Tung Tze Nursery, which is a new community garden of the department.
The Community Garden Programme encourages people to participate in greening activities at the community level and make greening part of daily life.
Six community gardens have been established since February last year. They are located at the Lion Rock Park in Wong Tai Sin; Tung Chung Tree Bank on Lantau Island; Wai Tsui Cresent Tree Bank in North Point; Fa Hui Park in Sham Shui Po; North District Park in Sheung Shui; and Kwai Fuk Road near Kwai Shing Swimming Pool in Kwai Tsing District.
"It is a great opportunity for city-dwellers to learn more about horticultural skills. Participants learn how to grow ornamental plants, fruit and vegetables in urban parks and then take home the harvest," a department spokesman said.
The gardening course, with a maximum of 50 participants, will be conducted in Cantonese. Each successful applicant will be allocated a plot of 2.25 square metres on which to practise gardening.
Each course lasts four months. The fee for each course is $400. Successful applicant can bring along four friends or relatives, who do not have to pay the course fee.
"The programme is tailor-made for city-dwellers who may choose the mode of participation that suits them best. They can take care of their plants from 8am to 6pm daily, or restrict their activities to holidays and weekends, letting the garden keepers look after the regular watering of plants," the spokesman said.
Application forms are available at the Tai Po District Leisure Services Office, 3/F Tai Po Complex, 8 Heung Sze Wui Street, Tai Po.
Completed forms can be submitted from tomorrow (March 17). The course quota will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
