HK Children's Symphony Orchestra to perform classical works

The Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra, under the leadership of Dr Yip Wai-hong, together with young soloists Xie Haoming (violin) and Benjamin Leung (piano) will perform a concert of music from classical masters.

This is a programme of works by Beethoven, Haydn, Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saens, Suppe and Wieniawski. Also participating in the concert are conductors Dr Jackson Leung and Grace Yu.

The Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra is a young force in the music field. The orchestra, which was established by Dr Yip in 1996, aims to provide high-quality music education to foster and groom young musicians. Members, aged from seven to 16 are recruited from competitive open auditions.

In 1997, the orchestra successfully held it's inaugural concert and has held an annual concert since then with critical acclaim. In November, 2001, the orchestra was invited to give two concerts in Bangkok as part of the birthday celebration activities for His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand.

The concerts will be staged at 8pm on April 2 (Saturday), at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall; and at 3pm on April 3 (Sunday) at the Auditorium, Tuen Mun Town Hall. Tickets priced from $60 to $130 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. (Limited tickets for Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
