Statistical figures on the Cultural Centre and Avenue of Stars for Fireworks Display

Special efforts have been made to keep Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) venues clean and tidy after people enjoyed the Lunar New Year Fireworks Display.

An LCSD spokesman said that from 6 pm to 9 pm today (February 10), 1.2 tonnes of rubbish were collected at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre (HKCC) while 2.9 tonnes of refuse were picked up at the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, Avenue of Stars (AOS) and UC Centenary Garden.

A total of 68 verbal warnings were given to littering offenders.

The LCSD, Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and Police deployed enforcement teams to patrol in the Tsim Sha Tsui area and took action against littering, illegal hawking and vandalising of public property.

"Messages on anti-littering and crowd management measures in Cantonese, Putonghua and English were broadcast regularly through public announcement systems at the HKCC and AOS," the spokesman said.

"We deployed additional workers to our venues to promptly clean up the rubbish and there were 50 volunteers to help spread the message of care for our environment," he added.
