"STRINGS Convergence" brings beautiful Chinese music

Presented by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra Annual Concert "STRINGS Convergence" will be held at 8pm on January 13 (Thursday) at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall.

Members of the Orchestra will perform a series of beautiful and beloved Chinese music. Programme highlights include the world premiere of Tang Jianping's "Convergence", Wu Houyuan's "Red Plum Capriccio" Erhu Concerto, Kuan Nai-chung's "The Years in Hong Kong" for Viola and Chinese Orchestra, Liu Tianhua's "New Year's Eve" and Hua Yanjun's "Reflection of the Moon".

Conductors of the concert will be Tsui Ying-fai and Ho Man-cheun of the Music Office, while guest Erhu and Viola soloists will be Hsin Hsiao-hung, the Principals Erhu of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and Leung Kin-fung, the First Associate Concertmaster of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra, one of the 16 youth orchestras of Music Office, was formed in 1978 and has taken part in numerous local performances and major festivals. It has a current membership of 90 musicians. In addition to presenting local concerts, the orchestra has also gone on a number of highly successful overseas tours.

Tickets priced at $60 and $40 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-priced concessions are available to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance Recipients. There is a 10 per cent discount for purchase of five to nine full-price tickets, and 20 per cent discount for purchase of ten or more full-price tickets.
