New Year's Eve programme at Shatin tonight

Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival is being held at Shatin Park and Shatin Town Hall Plaza and Podium tonight (December 31). The carnival kicked off at 8.30pm.
To support the victims of South Asia's earthquake and tsunamis, the LCSD liaised with charity organisations and arranged donation counters on-site. Oxfam Hong Kong and the Salvation Army set up donation counters at the venue for members of the public to make donations.
Programmes tonight include excerpts of musicals, acrobatics, magic, a marching band, jazz music and drum-and-dance performances.
The main stage in Shatin Park featured a marching band and acrobatic performances by the "Guangxi Eastern Cultural Art Troupe" and local performing group. The "Hong Kong Musical Theatre Federation" presented excerpts of Broadway Musicals "Phantom of the Opera", "Mama Mia", "Les Miserables", "Miss Saigon" as well as local productions, "1941" and "The Border Town".
There was also modern dance as well as African and Brazilian drum-and-dance performances.
Other programmes included a magic show, romantic piano music by young pianist Phoebus Chan, street performances and children's corner, "Wizard of Oz".
