Full efforts to keep LCSD venues clean at Christmas time

Full efforts were made to keep Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) venues clean and tidy after people celebrated the Christmas Eve.

According to a spokesman for the LCSD, from 6pm to 11pm yesterday (December 24), 1.2 tonnes of rubbish were collected at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre (HKCC) while 1.06 tonnes of refuse were picked up at the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, Avenue of Stars (AOS) and UC Centenary Garden.

A total of 5 rubbish warnings and 12 fixed penalty tickets were issued to littering offenders.

Also, there were 102 verbal warnings given and 6 summons issued for illegal hawking; 1 verbal warning for snow spraying. No public property was found vandalised with spray paint.

The LCSD, Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and Police deployed law enforcement teams to patrol in the Tsim Sha Tsui area and took action against littering, illegal hawking and vandalising of public property.

"Anti-littering and crowd management measures in Cantonese, Putonghua and English were broadcast regularly through public announcement systems at the HKCC and AOS," the spokesman said.

Additional litter bins were placed in the Tsim Sha Tsui area to maintain cleanliness.

"We deployed additional workers to our venues to promptly clear rubbish and perform overnight cleaning duties," he added.
