Red Star Dance Company showcases award-winning pieces
The Red Star Dance Company of the People's Liberation Army Academy of Art will perform a dance show "Fragrance through the Generations" in Hong Kong next month (January, 2005) - a showcase of some of the award-winning Chinese ethnic and modern dance pieces.
The programme highlights different ethnic dances including Mongolian female group dance "Bowl Dance" (First Prize winner in the 5th National Dance Competition) and " Exquisite Huadan" (First Prize winner in the 7th National Taoli Cup Dance Competition), duet "Floating in the Sky" (Second Prize winner in the 5th National Dance Competition), Tibetan male group dance "Spirit of the Snow Land", male group dance "Surpassing" (First Prize winner in the 5th National Dance Competition) and "Red in the East" (Second Prize winner in the 1st Chinese Dance Lotus Award) and many more.
The company artistic director is Liu Min. Choreographers/ directors are Ding Wei, Huang Lei, Jin Xing, Chen Weiya and Gao Cengming.
Dancers in the troupe, which has performed in Europe, America and Asia, are highly skilled in Chinese classical and folk dances as well as modern dance. Many of them have become household names and won numerous national and international awards. For nearly half a century, the Dance Department of the Academy has become better known as "cradle of dancers".
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Fragrance through the Generations" will be staged at 8pm on January 21 at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall and on January 22 at the Auditorium, Shatin Town Hall. Tickets priced at $160, $120 and $80 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients.
