Dianne Reeves lowers the curtain on this year's Jazz Up

Three times Grammy winner Dianne Reeves will give a concert in January as the finale of the star-studded Jazz Up series 2004/05.

The diva will perform at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall at 8pm, January 22, 2005 (Saturday). The series includes big names like Count Basie Orchestra, Herbie Hancock and Toots Thielemans who have given impeccable shows to high acclaim.

Recognised as one of jazz's pre-eminent vocalists, Dianne Reeves is one of the world's most significant jazz singers. While her singing is steeped in tradition, her rhythmic virtuosity and improvisational ease are breathtaking.

Reeves is the only singer to have won the Grammy for "Best Jazz Vocal Performance" for three consecutive recordings: "In The Moment - Live in Concert" (2000), "The Calling: Celebrating Sarah Vaughn" (2001) and "A Little Moonlight" (2003). In fact, she is the only recording artist in any singing category to have accomplished such a feat with three records in a row.

In 2002, Reeves performed at the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. She also received the Ella Fitzgerald Award at the Montreal International Jazz Festival and sang on the top-rating TV series "Sex & the City".

She received an Honorary Doctorate from the Berklee College of Musicand performed a New Year's Eve programme of Gershwin with the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Simon Rattle - a performance broadcast live throughout much of Europe and Asia. Reeves also became the first internationally renowned jazz artist to perform in Qatar.

Named the newly established Creative Chair for Jazz for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Reeves oversees the scheduling of jazz programming and educational workshops at both the Hollywood Bowl and the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

"Jazz Up: Dianne Reeves" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
