Owners invited to bring dogs along to Halloween carnival

Dog lovers are invited to bring along their canine friends to a special Halloween carnival, "Happy Dogs - Happy Days".

The two-day carnival will be held at the hard-surface pitches of the Kwai Chung Sports Ground (adjacent to Ko Fong Street) at 93 Hing Shing Road, Kwai Chung, New Territories from 11am to 6pm daily on October 30 (Saturday) and 31 (Sunday).

This is the third time that the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has teamed up with the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong) (SPCA) to organise a carnival for dog lovers.

An LCSD spokesman said the carnival aimed to provide leisure opportunities for dog lovers as well as promoting among the public a sense of kindness to animals and a proper attitude to pet keeping.

Activities organised at the carnival will include education and information booths, behaviour and a training demonstration and competition hosted by the SPCA, and experience-sharing by celebrities.

"They will help instill professional pet-keeping knowledge into dog lovers and help them gain insights into the temper and behaviour of their dogs and enhance pet-training skills," the spokesman said.

The highlight of the carnival, which will tie in with the Halloween festivities, is a Halloween fancy-dress competition in which contestants will use their imagination to dress up -- both themselves and their dogs.

Other attractions include a marching band performance by the Correctional Services Department on the first day of the carnival; a demonstration by the Police Dog Unit, games areas for animals and various pet supplies and services booths to be held on both days.

At the carnival, there will also be face painting, balloon wrapping, and photo sessions with cartoon characters.

Those intending to bring their dogs to the carnival must ensure that their dogs are at least five months old and in good health. No admission will be allowed for puppies under this age or dogs in season.

They have to produce on site valid documentation of rabies, distemper and parvovirus vaccinations. Every dog must have been microchipped for admission to the venue.

For details of the carnival, call 2424 7201 or 2802 0501. Anyone interested in the carnival is welcome to visit the LCSD website at or the SPCA website at .
