Avant-garde theatre to amaze HK audiences

An avant garde performance integrating dance, physical theatre, acrobatics and mime, will amaze Hong Kong audiences this autumn with "Il n'y a plus de firmament" (No More Heavens).

Choreographed by renowned Hungarian Josef Nadj, this mesmerising offering is a co-production of Theatre Vidy-Lausanne E.T.E., Theatre de la Ville and Berliner Festwochen.

Mingling circus acrobatics with dance theatre, Nadj will dazzle Hong Kong audiences.

Nadj's choreography has received much critical acclaim. Switzerland's "Le Matin" wrote: "He is undoubtedly one of the most outstanding and powerful choreographers of our time".

"Il n'y a plus de firmament" draws inspiration from the surrealistic paintings of French painter Balthus and the poetry of Artaud, master of the Theatre of Cruelty. Nadj transforms the stage into a montage of tantalising images, allowing the performers to lure the viewer into an artistic maze of fantasy through movement. Each spectacle is a marvel of impossible physical feats that question the rationality of life.

The diverse dance and acrobatic movements on stage not only stimulate the senses and redefine theatre space but also help us explore the relationship between Eastern and Western philosophy.

The charismatic presence of French legend Jean Babilee adds to the monumental significance of this production, and lets us re-examine the shock that physical forms can bestow.

"Il n'y a plus de firmament" is one of the programmes of the "New Vision Arts Festival" organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be staged at 8pm on November 20 and 21 at the Kwai Tsing Theatre Auditorium.
