Public invited to join hiking party

Everyone from the age of six and above is invited to join a mass hiking activity on November 7 for a day of relaxing exercise among some of the best countryside scenery on Hong Kong Island.

The "Autumn Hiking Fun Day" is organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Department of Health with assistance from the Countryside Heritage Society of Hong Kong.

It will kick off this year's hiking scheme under the Healthy Exercise for All Campaign which was first launched by the two departments in 2000 to encourage people to exercise regularly.

Participants will be taken by coaches from various pick-up points to Wan Chai Gap Park to attend an opening ceremony at 9:30am.

They will then be led by experienced guides along one of the four hiking routes they have chosen at the time of enrolment.

The four hiking routes are:
1) Wan Chai Gap Park - Middle Gap - Wong Nai Chung Gap - Mount Butler Road;
2) Wan Chai Gap Park - Lady Clementi's Ride - Aberdeen Upper and Lower Reservoirs - Yue Kwong Chuen;
3) Wan Chai Gap Park - Brewin Path Garden - Peak Tram Terminus, Garden Road; and
4) Wan Chai Gap Park - Middle Gap - Black's Link - Wan Chai Gap Park.

The deadline for enrolment is November 3. Places are available on a first come, first served basis. Adult supervision is required for children under 12. Every participant will receive a step counter as a souvenir.

Enrolment fee is $40 for participants aged between 15 and 59, and $20 for children from six to 14, elderly people aged 60 or above, full-day students, as well as people with a disability and their minders (limited to one minder per participant).
