Mid-Autumn Carnival held at Victoria Park tonight

Thousands of people poured into Victoria Park tonight (September 28) to take part in the large-scale Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival. Showcasing a series of programmes and spectacular lanterns, the carnival was alive with excitement and this feeling was reflected in the mood of the huge crowd.

Attractions included Chinese music, dance and acrobatic performance by the San Tau Art Troupe, golden oldies, lantern quiz, arts and craft stalls, fortune-telling and game stalls. To add lustre to the occasion, spectacular lanterns were display and filled the Park with festive atmosphere.

The lantern that looks ahead to the opening of Hong Kong Disneyland, bearing the images of Sleeping Beauty Castle was also a popular spot for photo-taking.

Two more Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnivals will also be held tomorrow (September 29). Admission is free. Details are as follows:

1. Kowloon Region Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival
September 29 (Wednesday), 7.30pm-10.30pm
Ko Shan Road Park and Ko Shan Theatre
Programmes: Chinese music, dance and acrobatic performance, excerpts of Cantonese opera and Peking opera, lantern quiz, fortune-telling and lantern display

2. New Territories West Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival
September 29 (Wednesday), 7.30pm-10.30pm
Sha Tsui Road Playground, Tsuen Wan
Programmes: Cantonese opera, Cantonese operatic excerpts and Huang-mei melodies, Chinese orchestral concert, story telling and shadow art performance, lantern quiz, fortune-telling, game stalls and lantern display

People can also enjoy the spectacular lantern display "Legend in the Moonlight Shadow" at Kowloon Park until October 24. Near the park's Bird Lake is the spectacular lantern "The Legend of the White Snake" telling a popular love tale of Lady Bai She and Xu Xian. Located near the Land Mark in the park is another lantern display "Blessings from the Nine Dragons" featuring a grand "Wall of the Nine Dragons" and the "Make-a-Wish Fountain". At the Piazza, lanterns crafted in the shape of insects - butterflies, ladybirds, dragonflies will be on display.

All entries in the 2004 Mid-Autumn Lantern Design Competition, including the winning designs, will be displayed at the Exhibition Hall, Hong Kong City Hall from September 29 until October 8.

People are urged to avoid littering and wax-burning while celebrating the Festival.
