Applications invited for dinghy sailing race off Wong Shek

Members of the public who are aged 14 or above and are holders of the Sailing Basic Skills Certificate or equivalent are invited to participate in a dinghy sailing competition, Wong Shek Topper Race 2004, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD).

The Topper Race 2004, which comprises mens' open and womens' open divisions, will be held on December 18 and 19 at the Jockey Club Wong Shek Water Sports Centre.

Meanwhile, four one-day "Workshops - Qualifying Race" will be arranged on November 5, 13 and 21 and December 1 respectively with a view to improving participants' sailing knowledge and skills as well as assisting them to qualify for the race in December.

"The Wong Shek Topper Race 2004 aims at arousing the public's interest in dinghy sailing. The participants will not only enjoy the fun of dinghy sailing but also share their experience with others sailing lovers," a department spokesman said.

Applications for the workshops will open tomorrow (September 23) and close on September 30. Quotas for the workshops will be allocated by drawing lots. Fees for successful applicants range from $20 to $40.

Application fees for the Wong Shek Topper Race 2004 are from $30 to $60.

Application forms are available at the Jockey Club Wong Shek Water Sports Centre, Chong Hing Water Sports Centre, Tai Mei Tuk Water Sports Centre and St Stephen's Beach Water Sports Centre. Completed application forms together with copies of the certificates should be submitted or mailed to the Jockey Club Wong Shek Water Sports Centre.
