Award-winning dance programme to be staged in October

Yunnan Province Song and Dance Theatre will perform the award-winning dance theatre "Songs of the Red Earth" in Hong Kong to celebrate the 55th National Day of the People's Republic of China.

The production won a Class One Award for New Repertory/Programme in Yunnan with its premiere. Dancers from 26 ethnic groups will present a tribute to the many facets of life and the ethnic culture of the "red earth" with beautiful songs, dances and music.

The programme will have a new version for its Hong Kong tour. Four sections of the show including "The Music of the Waters", "The Spirit of the Mountains", "The Love of Songs" and "The Passion for Dance", incorporate folk dances of the Han and many of the exotic dance elements of the ethnic groups in Yunnan.

Over the years, Yunnan Province Song and Dance Theatre has staged ethnic song and dance galas, concerts and ethnic dance dramas, featuring performances that are creative, colourful and full of national characteristics. It has won many high-level awards, such as First Prize in the National Dance Drama Competition and the Wenhua Grand Award in the Ministry of Culture Third Wenhua Awards for the ethnic dance drama "Ashima"; Gold Awards in the Korean April Spring Friendship Arts Festival for "Water-splashing Festival" and "Young Men, the Sixian Lute and Maying Flowers". The theatre has toured more than 30 countries and regions in different parts of the world and received high acclaim.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the performance will be staged on October 5 and 6 at 7.30pm at the Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre; and at 8pm on October 7 at the Auditorium, Yuen Long Theatre. Tickets priced from $80 to $180 are now available at all URBTIX outlets.
