Children's creativity revealed in banknote design competition

The creativity of 284 children is reflected in their amazing and colourful entries in the "My Hong Kong Banknote Design Competition" (Children's Category).

The competition's winning entries are on display at the "Winning Designs Exhibition" which starts today (August 28) and continues until November 8 at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum.

The competition, jointly organised by the Heritage Museum and Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC), is part of the activities of the "Banknotes that Tell a Story" exhibition, which is currently being held at the Heritage Museum. Participants were required to design a "$2,500 banknote" for the competition, which was divided into the children's category (eight to 12 years) and the open category (all Hong Kong residents).

Based on judging criteria such as originality, creativity, reflection of the characteristics of Hong Kong and coherence with the competition theme, the first, second and third place winners and 50 runners-up for outstanding and merit awards were selected for the children's category.

The first, second and third place winners are Wong Cheuk-hin (11 years), Lau Tsun-ming (eight years) and Chan Wan-ka (10 years) respectively. They have been awarded bookshop gift vouchers of $1,500, $1,000 and $500 respectively and were invited to visit HSBC's Main Treasury this morning. Fifty runners-up for outstanding and merit awards also received a certificate of merit.

Entries in the open category of the competition will be accepted until next Tuesday (August 31). Awarded designs will go on show at HSBC Main Building in October.

The Heritage Museum is located at 1 Man Lam Road, Sha Tin. For details of the banknote design competition, visit the Heritage Museum's website at or call 2180 8260/2180 8192.
