LCSD to temporarily close Kowloon Park swimming facilities

All swimming facilities at Kowloon Park will be temporarily closed from tomorrow (August 24) to facilitate tracing "bloodworms", a spokesman for the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) said today (August 23).

The spokesman noted that earlier this month a few "bloodworms" were discovered in the indoor main and secondary pools of the park.

The LCSD has carried out inspections but cannot find the source of the worms.

Hence, it was decided on August 21 to drain the water of the indoor main, secondary and diving pools so as to carry out a thorough inspection of the sand trap and the filtration system.

As it is quite difficult to detect whether there are any "bloodworms" in the four outdoor pools while there are swimmers still using the pools, the LCSD will temporarily close the outdoor pools as well from tomorrow until further notice.

Ends/Monday, August 23, 2004
