LCSD plans to hold working groups meetings with lifeguards
*********************************************************

In response to media enquiries, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) today (August 10) confirmed that the department approached the Hong Kong and Kowloon Life Guard's Union again to invite participation in working groups on lifeguard manpower establishment and the salary level of temporary contract lifeguards.

"In view of the time required to thoroughly study the present manpower arrangement of all the 36 swimming pools and 32 beaches operated by the LCSD, we propose the working group on the review of lifeguard establishment to meet on August 13 so that follow-up work can begin as soon as possible," a department spokesman said.

"We sincerely hope that the differences with the union can be resolved and we can join hands to better serve the community in protecting the safety of swimmers," the spokesman added.

The department also proposed to the union that the working group on studying the mechanism for determining the salary level of temporary lifeguards could meet on August 17 or 18.

A letter to invite the attendance of the union at these two working groups was sent out today and followed up by telephone communications.

"We wait in anticipation of a positive reply from the union," the spokesman said.
