HK pianist to give Beethoven and Chopin recital

One of Hong Kong's finest young musicians, Ma Cong, will demonstrate his piano skills with a recital of Beethoven and Chopin pieces next month.

The concert, presented by the Department of Leisure and Cultural Services, will feature Beethoven's "Sonata No. 30 in E, Op. 109", "Sonata No. 21 in C, Op. 53. 'Waldstein'" and Chopin's four Ballades.

Ma Cong, who has been taught by Margaret Lynn, John Winther, Gabriel Kwok, Boris Lysenko and Li Mingqiang, has been awarded numerous scholarships and awards. He was winner of the Singapore Rolex Performance Award and second runner-up in the Mozart Bicentenary Piano Competition of Asia. Ma has given recitals in many countries, including Australia, Canada, Japan, Singapore and the United States as well as the Mainland and Macau.

He is now a faculty member of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the Hong Kong Baptist University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

"Piano Recital by Ma Cong" will be staged at 8pm on September 7 (Tuesday) at the Theatre, Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets priced at $120 and $80 will be available from Saturday (August 7) at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
