The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced this afternoon (August 6) that owing to lifeguards taking industrial action, five swimming pools are to be temporarily closed and no lifeguard services are provided at nine beaches this afternoon for the swimmers' safety sake.

The affected swimming pools are:

Sham Shui Po Swimming Pool;
Hammer Hill Road Swimming Pool;
Fanling Swimming Pool;
The Jockey Club Yan Oi Tong Swimming Pool; and
Kwai Shing Swimming Pool.

The affected beaches are:

Middle Bay Beach;
Cafeteria Old Beach;

Golden Beach;
Trio Beach;
Kiu Tsui Beach;
Hap Mun Bay Beach;
Clear Water Bay First Beach; and
Clear Water Bay Second Beach.

Red flags are hoisted at the above beaches to remind beach-goers to heed water safety.

The department apologised for any inconvenience caused.
Members of the public may call the Government Hotline at 1823 or browse LCSD's website at http://www.lcsd.gov.hk to enquire about the opening of swimming pools and beaches.
