LCSD writes to lifeguard union

In response to media enquiries, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) today (July 30) confirmed that it had sent a letter to the Hong Kong and Kowloon Life Guards Union this afternoon to propose details on setting up two working groups to study the mechanism for determining the salary level of temporary contract lifeguards for the coming year and to review the department's lifeguard establishment respectively.

The union was invited to send representatives to join the two working groups and to discuss the proposed terms of reference stated in the letter.

The letter also gave information about the mechanism and principles for working out the salary level of temporary contract lifeguards in 2004 and the existing lifeguard establishment.

Reply from the union is awaited and meetings of the two working groups can be convened as soon as dates are mutually agreed.

Ends/Friday, July 30, 2004
