Majority of LCSD swimming facilities remain opened today

With the majority of lifeguards of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) being reported duty as usual and the assistance from the Hong Kong Life Saving Society and the Auxiliary Medical Services (AMS), most of the swimming pools and beaches of the LCSD remained opened today (July 18) despite the industrial action taken by some of LCSD lifeguards.

LCSD's 34 swimming pools, 32 beaches as well as four water sports centres remained opened except Sham Shui Po Park Swimming Pool and Yuen Long Swimming Pool which had to be closed temporarily during the whole day.

Details of the on-duty lifeguards at swimming pools and beaches are:

Morning session (as at 10.45am)

Number of LCSD lifeguards reported duty: 549
Number of honorary lifeguards and members from the AMS reported duty: 349

Afternoon Session (as at 2.45pm)

Number of lifeguards required: 888
Number of LCSD lifeguards reported duty: 517
Number of honorary lifeguards and members from the AMS reported duty: 329

Night Session
-------------

(as at 7pm at beaches)
Number of lifeguards required: 405
Number of LCSD lifeguards reported duty: 311
Number of honorary lifeguards and members from the AMS reported duty: 87

(as at 10pm at swimming pools)
Number of lifeguards required: 483
Number of LCSD lifeguards reported duty: 199
Number of honorary lifeguards and members from the AMS reported duty: 191

The department recorded a total of 54,347 attendance for the swimming pools today whereas that for last Sunday (July 11) was 67,055. The number of estimated attendance at the beaches was 125,185 today whereas that for last Sunday (July 11) was 130,259.
