First skateboard arena to add to Lai Chi Kok Park

The first skateboard arena in Hong Kong will be among another host of facilities to be added to Lai Chi Kok Park on June 28.

A spokesman for the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) said that the skateboard arena was the first of its kind constructed in the department's park.

He said that the arena would be opened to skateboard lovers free of charge from 7 am to 10 pm daily.

Besides for skateboarding, the arena could also be used for BMX and in-line roller-skating activities, the spokesman added.

Other new additions to Lai Chi Kok Park will include two basketball cum volleyball courts, one seven-a-side pitch with a spectator stand, a skating rink and five tennis courts.

Members of the public can use the LCSD Leisure Link to book the tennis courts or they can make on-the-spot bookings.

Other facilities can be used free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis or by written bookings.

The newly added facilities have been built by the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation under the reprovisioning project of the park which was occupied partially by the corporation for the West Rail development. The facilities will be managed by the LCSD.

The existing facilities in the park include a jogging track, children's play area, landscape plantings and a specially designed Lingnan Garden.
